2021 Pack-A-Back Education Program
About Mentor Discover Inspire (MDI)
MDI is a volunteer organization dedicated to serving its community by Mentoring, Discovering and Inspiring leaders to cause greatness in their communities. Our members support numerous charitable causes across the United States and Canada.
In San Jose, a local MDI division is leading a campaign to support Pack-A-Back which is an education program operated by Sacred Heart Community Service, which is one of the most trusted and well run non-profits in Santa Clara County (see their score!). It is our 13th year in a row supporting Pack-A-Back. In 2018, MDI and its team of sponsors raised $23,065 in donations to provide 600 backpacks full of supplies to under-served children. MDI and its team of sponsors were the largest contributors of backpacks to Pack-A-Back program over the last five years. Overall, Sacred Heart gave out 3,300 backpacks in 2018. Although the size of Pack-A-Back has grown significantly over the years, it has yet to fully meet the need in our community and we have to turn families away each year.
2021 Pack-a-Back Campaign Goals
Leadership and Organization
One of the key ingredients provided by MDI is leadership and organization. It takes hundreds of volunteers from our sponsors, our community and MDI to produce a successful Pack-A-Back program each year.
Training and Mentorship
We provide volunteers and corporate sponsors the training, tools and support to achieve their fundraising goals.
MDI produces a packing day event each year so that volunteers and sponsors can see the results of their fundraising efforts and celebrate their accomplishments. This is where we organize the schools supplies and prepare the backpacks. It’s like spending a few hours in Santa’s workshop! You don’t want to miss it.
